Dementia Friendly Lady Bay
A dementia friendly community is one where people living with dementia are active and live well, and are understood, supported and respected to live in the way they want to live in the community they choose.
As a group of local residents we have been working towards making Lady Bay dementia friendly. We have run awareness courses and encouraged local groups and local businesses to become dementia friendly. We are actively involved in the Heron Music Café for Well Being (see below) which is an all-inclusive community group about accepting people for who they are rather than ascribing labels. The café is a living illustration of how being dementia friendly leads to everyone being accepted, respected and included.
If you would like to know more, to join the group or would like to help in any way, please contact us on:- Email – [email protected] or Phone – 0115 9145879. Members of the group include Victoria Elder, Richard Arblaster, Carol Hughes and John Osborne.
The heron music well being cafe - volunteers welcome
Music is central to our experience of the world around us. It is a primary source of the way we experience, understand and interpret the world in which we live. It is one of the core experiences that define us, unite us and enrich us.
Musicworks exists to promote all forms of music by encouraging and showcasing musicians to help them reach a wider audience.
As a charity (Reg. Number 1119679) we have been involved in a number of projects that use music in a variety of care setting to improve the quality of life for people with dementia, people who care for others, those at end of life and people undergoing medical procedures. We have also been actively involved in making Lady Bay a Dementia Friendly Community.

The Heron Music Well Being Cafe is run by musicworks and sponsored by the Trent Bridge Community Trust. The cafe meets on a fortnightly basis at the Poppy and Pint and the aim is to provide an inclusive space for people to come along and enjoy live music based on the five principles of Well Being. The cafe is about avoiding labels and bring people together with a wide variety of mental health conditions, with those who are socially isolated or who just want to share a cup of coffee and have a song! No charge is made to attend and refreshments are provided, although we welcome donations to ensure the cafe can continue. The sessions are led by specially trained musicians who are supported by a team of volunteers.
Sessions take place on a Monday morning between 10.30 and 12noon on a fortnightly basis (not bank holidays). Contact us for details.
If you are musician, a music lover or someone who would like to support us by volunteering to support the work of the charity please see our website for further details at http://musicworksnet.co.uk/.
